Mrs. Gayatri Sunil Ghule, is not just the founder of Aaira Foundation but the main pillar, inspiration, motivation and passion. She has done her BA in Sociology and MS in Psychotherapy and Counseling.
Having worked as a group leader at Tanishka stree pratishthan abhiyan, a counselor at Hadapsar police station, member of dakshata committee Hadapsar police station, anti- harassment committee member at annasaheb magar college and a voluntary counselor at all the zilla parishad schools, she understood the problems faced by people in society.
Having been actively involved in social activities in school and college days she was always inclined towards social work. After fulfilling all her domestic responsibilities she decided to start an NGO with the aim of empowering women and girls of all communities leading to improvement in their lives and livelihoods.
She strongly believed that Empowerment does not only mean financial empowerment but also making her strong physically, emotionally, socially and mentally. For that they conducted different training programs, workshops, health checkup camps, legal support and counseling.
Also provided support to children in need of protection and survival.
She has also organized beauty pageants and dance shows to give a platform to women and girls who desire to go on stage but do not get a platform. Once they go on stage they gain a lot of confidence and can achieve much more in this field or anywhere else in their personal or professional life. Here they get a chance to bring out their hidden talents and prove their worth.
We conduct summer camps for underprivileged children. All the privileged children go for summer camps as soon as their holidays begin. So we thought of having the same activities for children who cannot afford such summer camps.
We have done successful waste management programs in a number of societies in Pune and a lot of villages nearby. We educate people to segregate dry and wet waste and to decompose wet waste in their own home to make good manure.
Children are the future of tomorrow, so we conduct a number of awareness programs for them in schools. Good touch Bad touch is a very important topic on which we give lectures to students from 3rd and 4th standard. Then personal hygiene, anti- harassment, examination fear and a number of other topics are covered in schools and colleges.
Our other projects of training women include handmade products training, LED light garland making, and homemade pickles jam sauce etc. making. We teach them marketing and also provide market for their products.
You educate a man…. You educate a man…… you educate a women … you educate a generation. So we provide adult literacy to uneducated women, and also provide tuition classes at vasti level.
There were a lot of difficulties I had to face during my journey of empowering women..
Women feel their duty is limited to house hold cores only and they never wanted to come out of their houses. Their whole day was spent in doing things for family members only and it was a task to make them realize that they can spare time for themselves also if they wanted to. So it took us sometime to bring them out of the house. We had to teach them time management so that they could find time to take training of their interests. When training was completed they were worried about marketing. So at every stage it was a big challenge for us to assure them that they will be able to succeed.
When a few ladies successfully started earning it make our job easy. We shared their stories with them to encourage them to get empowered.
My family has been extremely supportive in all my social activities. In fact my daughters are a part of Aaira foundation and actively participate in all our activities.
In future I would like to see all the women educated empowered and living a respectful and dignified life.
Women who are working hard to achieve success: I would just say that a woman has a lot of potential… realize that and strive to be there. One of the most courageous things you can do is identify yourself, know who you are, what you believe in and where you want to go…
