Devika Ghule

WOMEN PROGRAM DIRECTOR

Devika Ghule, born and brought up in Pune. I have done my graduation in Sociology from Fergusson College, Pune. While I was graduating, I have done a Diploma in Women and Development and was also a part of the Social Outreach program conducted by our college. I was actively involved with the program as I was the student coordinator for one of the schools with which we were associated. We working with a government school, we would teach the students English and take various activities throughout the year, like best out of waste, drama, poems, and good touch bad touch, art and craft and much more. I would plan all the activities with my team and then we would execute them. I have even worked on waste management during my graduation. I have even worked a lot with visually impaired students while in college. As a team, we would help them in every possible way, like we would help them in arranging writers for them, celebrate Louise Braille day with them and would even be their saathi’s in college.

After my graduation, I have done my MA in Gender, Culture and Development studies from the Krantijyoti Savitribai Phule Women’s Studies Centre, SPPU. While my post-graduation, I have even interned with MASUM on the health issues of women. During my internship with MASUM, I would visit Purandar area where MASUM has worked largely and meet their associates to complete my research. Later on, I have interned with Amnesty International, an NGO which works on the issue of violence. While at Amnesty, I would prepare research modules for their project for which I have visited various government officials and read a lot about violence. Further, I have worked on a research project conducted by the University of Gottingen for a year.

I have been associated with Aaira Foundation since day one of the foundation. The main purpose of the foundation and my interest area is the same which is women empowerment. Even before the foundation was set up, we have been conducting activities for women and their empowerment.

With the other team members of the foundation, I plan various activities like conducting different kinds of trainings which will help these women to set their own businesses, tree plantation drives, clothes donation drive, taking sessions in schools and colleges on sensitive topics which is today’s need. We even conduct summer camps for children studying in government schools as they are deprived of some luxuries. I have been an active member of the foundation and development of the foundation and will continue to do so.
